Hunt Auctions to Conduct Sports Memorabilia Appraisal Fair at MLB DHL All-Star FanFest

EXTON, Pa., – Hunt Auctions, the official auctioneer of the Major League Baseball DHL All-Star FanFest, will offer its team of nationally recognized experts to conduct complementary appraisals of sports memorabilia on Friday, July 11th through Sunday, July 13th at the Javits Center in New York City. Attendees can call ahead to schedule a private consultation at 610-524-0822.

“New York is so rich in baseball history that we expect a number of exciting items to emerge,” said David Hunt, President of Hunt Auctions. “Each year it is interesting to watch what people bring into the appraisal fair at FanFest. We’ve seen six figure pieces, but we’ve also met several fans who believe they’re holding their retirement in their hands. Unfortunately, we sometimes have to break the bad news to them.”

At last year’s DHL All-Star FanFest in San Francisco, Hunt Auctions appraised a Warren Spahn Milwaukee Braves home uniform from 1955. The owner played for a Braves affiliate in the 1950s, and was issued the jersey when it was passed down from the Majors. After hanging in a closet for half a century, the jersey sold at a Hunt Auctions event late last year for $46,000. “I remember when the owner and his family came into FanFest,” said David Hunt. “They pulled the Spahn uniform out of a plastic bag and were astounded to hear it was worth at least $20,000-$30,000.”

Hunt Auctions will conduct the complimentary appraisal fair for the fourth consecutive year as part of the DHL All-Star FanFest leading up to the Hunt Auctions 2008 MLB Live Auction on July 14th and 15th. More than 975 items will be sold including the personal collection of Yankees Greats Whitey Ford and Thurman Munson. Top items include Ford’s 1950 Yankees road jersey ($40,000- $50,000), a President John F. Kennedy autographed baseball signed to Whitey Ford ($30,000-$40,000), Munson’s 1976 AL MVP award ($100,000-$150,000), and Munson’s 1977 and 1978 World Series rings ($40,000-$50,000 each). Other highlight items include Lou Gehrig’s New York Yankees warm-up jacket dating to the final game of his streak c.1939 (est. upon request), Babe Ruth’s 712th home run autographed baseball (est. $100,000-$200,000), and a Jackie Robinson game-used bat (est. $75,000-$100,000).
