Rare 1800 Continental Congress Journals to be Offered in Central Mass Auctions 1/29 Antique Estates Sale
Worcester, MA – Central Mass Auctions Inc. (www.centralmassauctions.com) will be offering an important, rare set of Congressional Journals from 1800 in their January 29, 2009 sale.
The 13 volume set was authorized by Congress to be printed by Folwell’s Press for use by the U.S. Congress and House of Representatives. 400 Copies were printed for their use.
The inside of the book bindings contain book labels showing that they were owned by Edward Everett. Everett was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, United States Seenator, United States Secretary of State, Massachusetts Governor and President of Harvard University.
Everett wrote a note in the first volume stating that the books were formerly owned by Elbridge Gerry who was Vice President under James Madison during his second term. Gerry was also a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
The auction will also include a wide variety of other items that were obtained from estates throughout the Northeast. Items include two folk art panels from the Coney Island Amusement Park in New York. The panels are carved in a floral design with angels and contain a mural of sailing ships.
A collection of Sterling from a Worcester estate contains a Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver spoon, 16″ Gorham Sterling vase and Sterling hors d’oeurves picks.
Also being offered is a collection of carnival glass and cut glass from a New Hampshire estate, several fire insurance signs, jewelry and many other items that will be pictured on the Central Mass Auctions wbsite www.centralmassauctions.com
