Eric Clapton Memorabilia as Popular as Ever at LiveAuctionTalk.com
May 28, 2009, Santa Fe — It had been a year-and-a-half since Eric Clapton’s last U.S. tour in 1989. The popularity of his new “Journeyman” album made the climate ripe for another visit.
Clapton was the headliner both nights of the Aug. 25-26 shows. He watched closely off-stage as two guitarists Robert Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughan worked the crowd up feverishly in anticipation of his appearance.
During the “Journeyman” tour Clapton played his signature, Torino red, Stratocaster guitar. No less than 21 musicians performed on the album. The songs were strong and the guitar playing was even stronger.
In 1970 Clapton bought a number of Stratocasters, Telecasters, and other Fender guitars in Nashville, Tenn., for $100.00 each. He gave a guitar to rock guitarists George Harrison, Steve Winwood, and Peter Townshend.
On Feb. 6, Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles, Calif., featured a stage-played and signed Eric Clapton Fender Stratocaster guitar in its 51st Grammy Awards Live Charity Auction. It was the same guitar Clapton used during the “Journeyman” tour. The guitar sold for $50,000.
