Colnect Collectors Club (colnect.com) today announced that there are more than 6,666 collectors registered to its website. This reflects a growth of 20% during the last two months. The Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum and Stamp Magazine have collaborated to celebrate the magazine’s 75th anniversary by launching the featured online collection “The Sun Never Sets on the Stamps of the British Empire.” The exhibit explores 19 stories relating to the stamps of Great Britain and its colonies between 1847 and 1965 and illustrates the history of the first pictorial, bi-color and diamond-shaped stamps issued in the British Empire. A 350 year old embroidered panel has gone on display in Glasgow after it was bought by the trustees of the Burrell Collection with a grant of £15,000 from independent charity The Art Fund and the help of the National Fund for acquisitions. Judith with the Head of Holofernes is a key addition to the Burrell’s internationally significant collection of 17th century embroideries.
