Malleries.com Opens Its Virtual Antiques Mall To Luxury Brands

Malleries.com, has unveiled a luxury brand component that now includes big brand presences like Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Gucci and Marc Jacobs, Cartier, Hermès and Louis Vuitton.

This is the first time an online antiques and art mall has offered space to dealers of designer handbags and accessories. The luxury site is set off as a branch of the main portal, a move that allows browsers to go direct to traditional goods such as antique furniture, lighting and paintings or browse the luxury brands.

The groundbreaking strategy has already proven itself by attracted record-breaking numbers of shoppers. Malleries.com reports sales in January 2009 among the highest in the site’s history.

The impact of luxury vintage goods on the collectibles market has risen sharply since auction houses began holding couture sales several years ago. Couture and luxury goods collectors range from the fashionistas that yield to designer labels the way that art collectors lean to established artists, to fashion designers and celebrity stylists.

In recent years the influx of brand name ‘knock-offs’ from the Orient has made shoppers cautious. Elizabeth Pershing, founder and president of Malleries.com, saw this as one reason for adding vetted dealers to the site.

“With consumers more wary than ever before, it was clear that there was a need a reputable on-line venue for buying and selling authentic designer goods,” Pershing said.

Each of the luxury brand sellers, like the antique and art dealers that use Malleries.com to increase their audience base, are required to adhere to strict standards of authenticity. The site maintains a zero-tolerance, anti-counterfeit policy to protect dealer reputations.
