Following on from the success of their London Fairs in 2013, which saw the re-branding of the Art Fair, the re-design of the Chelsea Antiques Fair as well as the introduction of a new August Fair at the centrally located, Mall Galleries, Penman Fairs are pleased to announce their 2014 dates, which will see for the first time, four Fairs in London. In response to requests from visitors and dealers alike, the September Chelsea Antiques Fair will also return.
These Fairs are in addition to the two in Chester and two in Petersfield, which will be held throughout the year.
Looking back over the year, Caroline Penman commented: “I’ve had some very satisfying moments this year, which I am confident will lead to successes in 2014: The March Chelsea fair saw the first airing of my new layout – with squares on the diagonal. It all fitted and was very well received by exhibitors and visitors alike. The Town Hall was fresh and smart, and even our regular visitors spent longer, enjoying the good food and discovering their favourite dealers in the new layout. I soon found that business was sufficiently good that I was being pressed to repeat the exercise in September. This was impossible for 2013, but I reserved the September slot for 2014.
She continued: “During the spring/summer I was hunting for new venues, and alighted upon the Mall Galleries, which had, by chance, the last week of August available. As a late booking, it was a gamble, but it paid off, and although we were far from full, we had a very happy and successful bunch of exhibitors, and some very admiring visitors. Consequently we have taken the bull by the horns, and booked for 2014 both Mall Galleries in August and Chelsea in September as well as March. Many exhibitors will be shy of showing at both August and September fairs, but I am confident that both can successfully draw quality exhibitors and offer the London fairs scene a pair of affordable quality events.
She finished by saying: “Affordability is I believe of an essence in these times. You see people losing or gaining many thousands at smart high-profile fairs. At Penman Fairs, where our most expensive stand is £3,500, the profits may be relatively less, but so are the risks! Safety first in these unpredictable times! I therefore press forward with optimism for 2014, when I believe confidence should be strengthening and the rich will no longer feel guilty about spending money!”
Nicholas Bagshawe of Nicholas Bagshawe Fine Art – based in St James’s (London) took part in the Chelsea Antiques Fair in March, and also exhibits at the two Olympia fairs. He returned to the Fair in 2011 after a 15-year gap and commented: “I had a very successful fair in 2013, which included five sales, due in large part to the pre-fair publicity and marketing. I find the fair extremely friendly, well-run and of a size that is easy for the visitor to get around. The location in the heart of Chelsea is extremely advantageous and apart from the possibility of attracting the serious local residents, I also find that it’s an attractive and highly convenient venue, to which my existing clients seem very happy to come and view my stock.”
Arash Karimzadeh of Pars Rug Gallery, Hampshire took part in several of the 2013 Penman Fairs. He noted: “As a regular exhibitor at Penman Fairs, Pars Rug Gallery has enjoyed reasonable sales this year. Pars Rug Gallery particularly values the opportunity to make new contacts and renew old ones at the fairs and its often some time afterwards that we really see the benefit. We are eagerly looking forward to 2014 with the economy looking up.”
