SKINNER FINE ORIENTAL RUGS AND CARPETS AUCTION

Skinner, one of the nation’s leading auction houses, will host an auction of Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets at its Boston gallery, located at 63 Park Plaza on Saturday, December 6th at noon. More than 300 lots will be offered from prayer rugs, to long rugs, to room size carpets including seven Serapi carpets, seven Marasali Rugs, and six Ushak carpets.

Persian rugs
Featured Persian rugs include a number of fine weavings from the Northwest such as a Tabriz Prayer Rug (lot 57, est. $3/4,000) and two Serapi Carpets (lot 137, est. $30/40,000 and lot 140, est. $20/25,000) both from the last quarter of the 19th century. Featured from the West is a room-sized Bahktiari Carpet (lot 139, est. $15/20,000), a Sultanabad Carpet (lot 136, est. $12/15,000), and two late 19th century Fereghan-Sarouk Carpets (lot 111, est. $12/15,000 and lot 138, est. $15/20,000).

Caucasian weavings
As always, this Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets sale includes a wonderful variety of Caucasian weavings. Highlights from the Southeast include two Talish Rugs, one long dated 1820 (lot 120, est. $8/10,000) and the other from the mid-19th century (lot 91, est. $7/9,000). Offers from the Northeast include a Soumak Small Carpet (lot 95, est. $12/15,000) and a Seichour Rug from the last quarter of the 19th century (lot 116, est. $15/20,000). Featured from the East are two Marasali Rugs, one a pictorial rug (lot 117, est. $10/12,000), the other a prayer rug (lot 121, est. $6/8,000). Rounding out the offerings, from the Northeast Caucasus is a last quarter 19th century Seichour Long Rug (lot 125, est. $12/15,000) and from the Southwest a Sewan Kazak Rug (lot 124, est. $10/12,000).

Turkestanian rugs
Turkestanian works include a Tekke Chuval (lot 101, est. $2,5/3,500) from West Turkestan and a Esari Torba (lot 103, est. $3/4,000) from the same region. From East Turkestan comes a 19th century Khotan Rug (lot 129, est. $10/12,000).
