KILHEY COURT ANTIQUES WEEKEND JAN 23-25

The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited is expanding its repertoire of Luxury Antiques Weekends by adding the impressive Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel, Chorley Road, Worthington Lakes, Standish, Wigan, Lancashire WN1 2XN to its portfolio. This brand new three-day vetted antiques and fine art fair is being held in the Lakeside Suite, adjacent to the main hotel, from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January 2009.

With a maximum of twenty-four exhibitors, the Luxury Antiques Weekend at Kilhey Court is a small and very exclusive event, featuring a select line-up of specialist professional dealers, all members of either The British Antiques Dealers’ Association (www.bada.org) or LAPADA the Association of Art & Antiques Dealers (www.lapada.org). Oil and watercolour paintings, town and country furniture, clocks, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics and glass, oriental carpets, maps, prints and many other objets d’art will be for sale. There will be something to suit every pocket with prices starting in the hundreds up to the many thousands of pounds.

One of the star pieces of this Luxury Antiques Weekend at Kilhey Court is a cabinet made in ash by the major early 19th century cabinet-maker George Bullock (1777-1818) who was based in both London and Liverpool. This fascinating piece, originally made for Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire is priced at £25,000 and is to be found on Melody Antiques’ stand. Another interesting piece of furniture they are bringing is an extremely rare West Indian specimen wood table from a famous Liverpool ship owner’s estate, which combines 36 specimen woods, c1830 (£6,900). Carlton Clocks is bringing a wide selection of different timepieces including a miniature boulle inlaid mantel clock (£2,800).

Angela Hone Watercolours is bringing A Venetian Piazza, a watercolour by Noel Harry Leaver ARCA (1889-1951) priced at £2,200. Leaver is a much loved northern artist who, although born in Yorkshire, is better known as a Burnley artist as this is where he lived and worked for most of his life. Contemporary paintings at the fair include a one-man show of traditional interiors by Michael John Hunt at The Hunt Gallery with prices starting at £3,500.

A couple of exquisite objets from Shapiro & Co, specialists in interesting and unusual items of silver and jewellery, include a Russian officer’s cigarette case with engraved signatures in gold, c1908 (£1,450) and a very pretty late 19th century brooch in the shape of a mandolin, with diamonds and rubies set in gold, c1880, is priced at £3,250.

A fine George III oval silver teapot made in London by Hester Bateman, c 1787-1788 (£3,500), a rare Victorian boar match case made in Birmingham in the late 1800s (£1,750) and a George III silver gilt fox mask stirrup cup made in London, 1809-1810 (£10,000) are amongst the many items of silver on sale from Nicholas Shaw Antiques.

There is plenty of sparkle at the fair from Plaza offering some exquisite pieces of stunning jewellery including a yellow and blue sapphire choker (£25,000). This is a one-off signed piece by Alexandre Reza of Place Vendôme, Paris. Other beautiful pieces include a 1960s yellow sapphire and diamond sunburst bracelet by David Morris of Bond Street, London (£7,500), as well as a sapphire and diamond ring by Boucheron, Paris (£5,600).

Visitors to the fair from further away can make a whole weekend out of the event by staying at the luxurious 4 star Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel which is set in the heart of Lancashire countryside. It offers a celebrated restaurant as well as superb leisure club facilities and is conveniently located near Junction 27 of the M6 motorway.

The benefiting charity is Derian House Children’s Hospice (www.derianhouse.co.uk) which gives specialist care and support for seriously and terminally ill children and their families in Astley Village, Chorley, Lancashire. A Charity Reception is being held on the opening night on Friday 23 January from 6pm to 8pm.
