Rare Antique French Paperweights for Auction

One of the highlights of the auction will be an extremely rare and important antique Clichy pedestal paperweight, originally the property of King Farouk of Egypt, whose collection was sold at Sotheby’ at the Koubbeh Palace, Cairo, Egypt, March 1954.

The weight is comprised of five concentric rings of millefiori, including one ring of nine white roses, with red centers, and a ring of five pink and green roses. The pedestal consists of blue and white staves. Diameter 2 1/8″. Valued at $25,000 to $30,000.

Also included in the sale is a rare antique Saint Louis flat bouquet paperweight, containing multi-tiered blue, white, and pink-striped dahlia surrounded by assorted flowers and buds, including an unusual white-centered red swirling latticinio flower. Diameter 2 7/8″.Valued at $18,000 to 25,000.

In addition, the auction will feature a rare and exceptional antique Clichy bouquet paperweight, with a Clichy trademark pink rose and bud flanked by a pansy with bud, and two thistles, all tied with a pink ribbon, over clear ground. Diameter 3 1/8″. Valued at $30,000 to $40,000.

Other antiques weights of note are: A Clichy moss ground paperweight, with a central pink and green rose; a rare Clichy miniature close packed millefiori paperweight, containing ten Clichy roses, including a rarely seen yellow rose; Baccarat Bouquet de’ Marriage weight from the Maurice Lindon Collection. Numerous antique American weights will be offered, as well as several antique Bacchus weights. Also included are antique Saint Louis, antique Baccarat and antique Bohemian weights. Several rare and out-of-print books will also be offered in the sale.
