It was a dark day last September that sent shockwaves coast to coast throughout the antiques industry when F&W announced the cancellation of the long-running Atlantique City Antiques Show. While the show had been in a downward spiral for the past several years, many remembered it as the “grand-daddy” of this country’s antiques shows. Anybody who was anybody in the business had at one time or another, “set up” at Atlantique City, and, in its prime, had all exhibition halls filled with thousands of fine dealers and even more buyers. While the show became much less than that in the past few years, Atlantic City still remains in our minds as the destination for the finest and largest of antique events.
Behind the scenes, since F&W’s announcement, the Atlantic City Convention Center had been interviewing and evaluating a number of promoters who could bring a show representative of the caliber it once was, back to that venue. On Friday, October 2, 2009, Allison Kohler, owner of JMK Shows, received the call that she had been chosen to bring a new antique show to Atlantic City. Within hours, The NEW Atlantic City Antiques and Collectors Show was born.
“I am honored and welcome the opportunity to create, re-invent and re-brand an event of this caliber in Atlantic City,” said Kohler.
JMK Shows, under the leadership of Kohler, has earned the reputation of producing events of exceptional quality with a keen eye to ensuring and maintaining the integrity of the event, the dealers and the merchandise. JMK’s Sarasota Shows, their Doll Shows and their flagship Morristown Shows speak for themselves in the level of quality events they produce.
Allison told us that she is thrilled at the opportunity to bring Atlantic City back even better and stronger than it was before. Re-branded, re-invented and highly vetted, on March 27, 2010, the doors will swing wide to 250,000 square feet filled with the finest antiques and collectibles in the country.
To add to the excitement, we’re thrilled to announce that VandM.com ( http://vandm.com ), the premier online marketplace for antiques, furniture, art and jewelry, has come on board as a major trade sponsor for the event. With a large global dealer base, VandM.com has been featured in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor and the Los Angeles Times nationally and internationally in several publications for South America and Europe.
