Newport Antiques Show 2011 August 12-14

The Newport Antiques Show celebrates its fifth year at St. George’s School in Middletown, RI, August 12 through August 14, 2011. One of the nation’s premier antiques venues, the annual show presents a superb selection of important antiques. William Vareika Fine Arts, Ltd. returns as Presenting Sponsor, and Preview Party Sponsor Brown Brothers Harriman of Boston returns for a second year. Forty-two of the country’s top dealers will present paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts in an unparalleled seaside setting. All net proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales benefit two charities: the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County.

For the fifth consecutive year, William Vareika Fine Arts, Ltd. renews a commitment as the 2011 Presenting Sponsor. Specializing in the purchase and sale of important 18th, 19th, and early 20th century American paintings, watercolors, drawings, and prints, Vareika is one of the largest art galleries in New England and is one of the Show’s lead exhibitors. Anne F. Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia will return as Chair of the Show and Gala Preview Party. “The team that created the Newport Antiques Show in 2007 is still together this year for a milestone anniversary,” said Ruth Taylor, Executive Director of the Newport Historical Society. “This promises to be a very special show.”

“There is a lot to love altogether about the Newport Antiques,” writes Antiques & the Arts Online. SoCo Magazine described the Gala Preview Party as “a huge success,” while Newport Life Magazine states that the Newport Antiques Show is, “one of the country’s best shows.”

Show manager Diana H. Bittel selects the Show’s dealers. Ms. Bittel, known for her work with the Antiques Council – serving as the Director of Shows and as the Council liaison to the Nantucket Historical Society Antiques Show – is herself a distinguished antiques dealer and exhibitor at the Show.

The 2011 loan exhibition will feature 18th and 19th century embroidered samplers from the Newport Historical Society’s collections. A visiting scholar will discuss these textiles during a morning lecture on Saturday, August 13.
